Oh no an editorial writer offended someone?!? Whatever will us poor mindless drones do?!? Editorial writers are PAID to offend people or at least they used be, as sharply defined opinion made people actually think, talk, and yes even argue about problems in society and sometimes they even found a way to come to a solution that worked for most if not all. But now, no one, not conservative, not liberal, not libertarian, nor even that mythical breed the moderates is allowed to say or do anything, that while it does no harm, might in the process offend some of the weak willed little nancy-boy ninnies who are too lazy to consider any other type of thought people may have. Does it make the offensive thoughts go away? No you weak little ninnies just dont have to hear them. But the problems stop being discussed as well. And just because this is so, no conversations can safely be had, no arguments wise or unwise, and no solutions can be reached. It is your paper not mine, and it is a private business so the 1st Amendment truly does not apply in this case so you can hire and fire as you will and God bless you. But you would do well to remember that a newspapers editorial pages used to serve a vital purpose by giving safe access to a multitude of opinions without regard to giving offense, these opinions helped jump start a path towards solving some of societys problems. Today that is not so and this PC firing of a good writer is proof. Newspapers are a dying industry and none of societies problems are talked about honestly anymore much less solved. I think the two things might just be related. More is the pity.
