Oh the AHA and their spotty record with protecting animals. An asterisk to this discussion is when I was making my film, Slither, an independent movie that did not have an AHA representative on set, my editor and I put No Animals Were Harmed During the Making of This Film at the end of the movie. We didnt think we were doing anything wrong, as it was completely true. We had lots of animals on set - crows, deer, cows, cats, even a caterpillar named Steve - all of whom were treated with kindness and not harmed in any way. However, after the film was released, the Humane Society came at us because its a trademarked phrase and we werent allowed to use it without their permission, despite its truth. We had to take it off of all the prints. However, now it seems Slither was far more deserving of the phrase than others.
