Oh what a cool update!! A few weeks ago I sent off a saliva sample for a DNA test for Vashti. I got them back today. The results were not surprising. After bringing Vashti home, I had wondered if she had Lab in her as well as Australian Shepherd and Corgi. So I wasnt at all surprised when the results listed the three major breed heritage to be Aussie, Corgi, and Lab! Ive attached the DNA results, a picture of Vashti with Dobby, our 5 year old rescue Corgi mutt, and a picture I just took today of Vashti. Vashti has been a real joy and gets along great with our other dogs. Vashti has an endearing way of trying to herd our senior dog (deaf/blind), Fritzi, so that Fritz can find his way back up the porch steps. Within a week of arriving at our home, Vashti was housebroken and crate trained. I waited for six weeks before I began training her in understanding the underground fence system, but she had been so observant of how far the other dogs would venture out that it only took TWO sessions before she knew the ENTIRE 4 acre circle boundary. She is so incredibly smart and observant!! She knocks on a bell at the front door to let us know she wants outside (none of the other dogs learned that!). It was a Christmas bell we hung up the first of December and we now plan on hanging a bell on the doorknob year round. Within a few weeks she knew the following words/phrases: outside, inside, up, down, crate, do your business (pee), real business (poop), get a toy, sit, stay, back. She is just AMAZING!!! Everyone who meets Vashti falls immediately in love with her! Thanks so much! Karen Smarsh
