Ohio Social Studies Review Call for Manuscripts Submission - TopicsExpress

Ohio Social Studies Review Call for Manuscripts Submission deadline: January 19, 2015 The editors of the Ohio Social Studies Review, a peer-reviewed publication of the Ohio Council for the Social Studies, issue a call to submit manuscripts for the Spring 2015 issue, which is scheduled to launch online in the end of April. The Ohio Social Studies Review is published twice a year, once in mid-fall as hard copy and once in mid-spring online. While both issues are open to all types of submissions, the spring issue has a targeted focus that aligns with the theme of the fall Ohio Council for the Social Studies Conference. The editors of the Ohio Social Studies Review are interested in soliciting manuscripts that add to what we know about best practices and research in social studies, and foster meaningful discussion about the implementation of such in social studies around the world. Submissions from all social studies disciplines as well as from interdisciplinary perspectives are welcome. The editors also have special interest in manuscripts authored by teachers or co-authored by researchers and practitioners that highlight practical responses to persistent challenges and understanding in our field. The Ohio Social Studies Review audience is comprised in large part of practicing classroom teachers; therefore, manuscripts that focus on practical applications and/or effectively relate theory to practice will receive preference. The OSSR accepts two types of submissions: full-length manuscripts that are submitted to the peer review process, and special feature articles that are shorter opinion and/or informational pieces. Full-length manuscript submission will be refereed using a double-blind peer review process. The content of the Special Features section is determined by the editors and may include items such as legislative updates and issues-based opinion pieces. The OSSR has a new feature called Forum, that presents paired manuscripts offering divergent viewpoints. If you would like to suggest a dialogue topic for our Forum feature, please contact the editor directly. Targeted Focus for Spring 2015 Issue For this spring 2015 issue, the editors are interested in articles that center on the notion of Civic Literacy: Taking Informed Action, with attention to the knowledge and skills our students are expected to be learning in the classroom. Some examples of this focus include manuscripts that address: Advocacy efforts at the local level and beyond Need for civic education and literacy skills Classroom citizen projects and activities Service learning in social studies Literacy and social studies efforts that lead to action Informational text analysis and evidenced-based writing Submission Guidelines Submit your full-length manuscript or special feature article to: edhd.bgsu.edu/ossr/journal/index.php/ossr/index. Full-length manuscripts must meet the following criteria in order to be sent out for peer review: Not under consideration elsewhere. Submitted in Microsoft .doc or .docx format. Submitted in Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition) style. Please note that this is the most recent version of APA. Manuscripts that do not comply with APA style will be returned and requests for corrections will be made. See the website for basic APA guidelines and author check sheet. From 1,500-5,000 words in length, including references. Special feature articles are not sent out for peer review and should be 1,500-2,000 words in length. In addition, the online platform will require the following for all submissions: Complete contact information for all authors, including address, telephone, and e-mail that is separate from the body of the manuscript. A biographical sketch about each author of 50 words or less. An abstract of 200 words or less in APA style (6th edition) format.
