Oil and gas Police officers, were on the 7th May 2014, introduced to the Ministry of energy and mineral development at the Ministry premises in Entebbe through a workshop geared towards orienting them to the sector. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of energy and mineral development to help officers understand oil and gas sector which they are charged with the responsibility of safe guarding. The workshop was attended by oil and gas police officers, a representative from community policing department as well as a member from police press and public relations. The commissioner petroleum exploration and production department Mr. Ernst N.T. Rubondo appreciated the fact that oil and gas sector is new to Uganda but not new to other countries. In his opening remarks, he said that there is need to bench mark from other oil producing countries for Uganda to be able to manage the sector efficiently. He appreciated the formation of oil and gas police by emphasizing the need to maintain security in the Albertine Graben to attract investors in the sector. “Safe guarding oil and gas is extremely of high value to the country,” said the commissioner. He reiterated the need to secure the routes, wells, vital installations among others and requested police to deploy a patrol car between Hoima and Wanseko to bolster security in the Area. The officers were taken through the progress of petroleum exploration and development in Uganda. Officers also toured the different departments in the Ministry. The Albertine Graben extends from Arua to Kanungu and covers the entire western part of Uganda.
