Oil-producing states should get Petronas stakes, too “The passing of the motion in the Sarawak legislative assembly to seek an increase of oil royalty to 20 percent is important and will pave the way for the restructuring of the national petroleum industry. “I laud the Sarawak governments bravery and hope that all three oil-producing states can do the same. “I also propose that all oil-producing states which are also poor states, also demand for equity in Petronas comparable to the federal government to ensure oil wealth is distributed equitably,” PAS vice president Husam Musa said in a statement. “States like Sarawak and Sabah are large states which require a lot of funding for infrastructure projects like highways or even roads to villages, as well as raising the natives still backward socio-economic standards. “The call for 20 percent oil royalty is reasonable and should be considered,” Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said, in a separate statement.
