Ok - on the Ebola patients: I am not going to mock anyone who is concerned and I am not saying there is no cause for concern but it is important to know that Ebola is already here in the US. Kept under lock and key by the SAME people that found a viable stash small pox virus in an unlocked unsecured closet. I just dont think those two patients put us at any more risk that we were already. Ebola is not an airborne virus - in the MOVIES it is - in real life it is not. The virus may be acquired upon contact with blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal (commonly monkeys or fruit bats). Therefore, its much easier for Ebola to get around in a 3rd world country than would be for it to spread unchecked here, while the scenario you fear is not impossible - without an airborne virus it is not likely. Unless of course someone purposefully introduced it to our water supply, to a suitable US animal host that commonly comes in contact with people, or something like that. BUT that could happen anytime - we dont need two sick patients here on US soil for that to happen. And most of you know me well enough - or you SHOULD anyways, to know, I dont get all my info from government sources. Information about Ebola is not super secret. Anyone that can google can learn all about it from multiple sources (and no I still do not count Natural News, the Huffington Post or blogs as sources). They (the CDC) are being careful with those patients because they have to be careful. Could you imagine the public outcry if they just walked them into the center without any precautions at all? Just because it is only spread by body fluids, doesnt mean its not highly contagious in that form - Polio also wasnt airborne and it killed 1,000 Americans each year and paralyzed tens of thousands more until a vaccine was developed. And yet, just to be clear, that still doesnt translate into the danger Ebola would be it it were airborne -- but its not. Could it be someday? Sure. But its not yet, and there isnt one little scrap of an article from any fear mongering scrapper website that I have seen that is going to convince me that is. There is ALOT of hype about this - and ALOT of people are making big money off of peoples fears and raking in website hits like crazy feeding it all. My advice is dont be suckered into it. Does the someone own a patent on Ebola? Probably. Someone owns a patent on just about everything, including various diseases and the treatments of them and companies have been patenting life (DNA) for some time now. I have heard that up to half of the human genome is patented (not sure if thats true but I wouldnt doubt it). It is a topic that late author Michael Crichton wrote about in the New York Times before his passing, trying to warn us all about. This is also how GMOs are patented. I do not think it means anything other than people are patenting just about everything in hopes that patent makes them money someday OR there are those who patent things just so others cannot. Just as always - please take the information that you read from from different sources online with a healthy grain of salt. Below is that article from Dr. Crichton if you are interested.... nytimes/2007/02/13/opinion/13crichton.html?_r=0
