Ok. I am going to vent a little about a subject that has been on my mind lately. I am getting tired of people telling me (and other people) that we are wrong and sinful for marking our bodies with tattoos. The classic disagreement with tattoos is in Leviticus. This is the only verse that pretty much people can go to in the Old Testament that talks about tattoos. And it says (out of context) Leviticus 19:28 - You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. Yes, this is true, He said this. But in context it is so important when youre reading the scriptures. it comes out a little different. In the entire chapter, God, in this passage is giving a bunch of statutes and a bunch of ways in how he lined up the Israelites to live in that point of time. Now, if you believe that this scripture is commanded to all people, then I would hope you live up to the rest of the chapter if youre going to live up to that, because I mean, why would you live off just half of it, right? Just a few verses above it says You shall not eat any flesh with blood in it, and when you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, then you shall regard its fruit as forbidden. Three years it shall he forbidden to you; and it must not be eaten. And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be hold, an offering of praise to the Lord. But in the fifth year you may eat of its fruit. So if youre the person quoting to me or anyone else that we shouldnt be getting tattoos, then I would hope that you are the person not eating any fruit or vegetables that has not been cultivated for at least three years and on top of that you dont eat any meat, because all meat has some form of blood in it. God gives certain rules to certain people depending on their situation and also depending on their reason to why they are doing what they are doing. God could tell you not to get a certain piercing. Not because that piercing in and of its self is a sin, but YOUR reason for why you want It is. God could have allowed someone else to get that same piercing because their reason was different than yours. So, Not only has God giving me the OK to get this tattoo, but my tattoo is glorifying God, and its a daily reminder that I am His, and if anything, its made my relationship with God even stronger. So please, before you go around lecturing people, make sure you really know what youre saying and you arent speaking untruths about the bible because that, my friend, IS a sin.
