Ok. I didnt like Nixon before this. Now, I am thinking of campaigning to have his body dug up, tried for Treason, and then executed by firing squad. In 1968, LBJ was THAT close to getting the South Vietnamese Govt to sign a peace agreement with North Vietnam. Why did it NOT happen? Nixon sent one of his liaisons, Anna Chennault, to South Vietnam to convince the government to NOT sign the peace agreement because if Nixon won, he would send enough tropes over to Nam to win the war. It is illegal for a private citizen of the United States to interfere in the negotiations between US and other nations. Nixon was a candidate when he did this. That qualifies him as a private citizen. I saw this headline earlier and, with just that information, added a note to Linda Fields share that Ford should not have pardoned Nixon and that Nixon should have faced charges for Watergate, Laos, and Cambodia. Now that I have actually read the article, it goes WAY beyond that. Because of Nixons actions, TWENTY THOUSAND AMERICAN SOLDIERS DIED IN VIETNAM from the time that the 68 talks fell apart to the day we left Vietnam. And a million Vietnamese died during that time period, as well. Include the deaths from the Laos campaign and Cambodia, and the deaths in that neck of the woods go through the roof. All of this because of one mans bid for power. I insist that this be taught in every American History course from now on.
