Ok, I have this question that may seem stupid or controversial. I have wondered about the longevity of indie game development as a career. How long do you guys plan to keep it up. What is the average age of people here. Im 24 and I do this along with my day job (working on a game full time is not an option) and I realize for me its not more than 4-5 years max that I can keep this up. I work really hard right now - sneaking time at work when no ones looking, working nights and working full days on weekends. Its tiring, exhausting and frustrating when something you worked on doesnt get appreciated. Also, the chances of creating a standout game dwindle everyday for individuals as game development becomes more and more accessible and game products continue being undervalued like they are. Also, I know everyone has a dream to create their own global sensation like minecraft or gasp.. Flappy bird... To get enough money to retire on. Whats the plan if that doesnt happen? Will you move to regular software? Or something else? So basically, how old are you, how do you support yourself right now, how long do you plan to keep this up and whats your exit strategy. I realise this comes off as really negative but its something that crossed my mind and I would like to hear other peoples opinion.
