Ok, I know I have been posting a lot of stories about Jessica from the Aberdeen news. I know they only give you so many free views. So, I wanted to make sure the most recent story would be able to be seen by all... The Aberdeen man accused in a Wednesday morning stabbing will likely be charged with premeditated murder sometime this week, said Chris White, chief deputy states attorney for Brown County. John Eric Hemminger, 33, is currently charged with attempted premeditated murder, a felony punishable by as much as 25 years in prison. But the woman hes accused of stabbing, Jessica Goebel, of Aberdeen, died Monday in a Sioux Falls hospital. So, White said, its logical that the charge will be adjusted. He said that its likely that Hemmingers next court appearance will be next week. Hemminger was arrested Wednesday after police and sheriffs deputies were called to 611 N. Second St. for an assault. At a court hearing last week, a prosecuting attorney said Goebel had been stabbed multiple times in her abdomen and back and had a brain injury and fractured skull. The assault was reported about 2 a.m. If Hemminger pleads guilty to or is found guilty of premeditated murder, he faces a minimum of life in prison and could be sentenced to death. Magistrate Judge Mark Anderson declined to set a bond for Hemminger last week, citing his danger to the community and himself. White said he believes the last time somebody was charged with capital murder in Brown County was after of the 2001 stabbing of Kelly Ryan, 26, of Aberdeen. The next year, Patrick J. Thielsen, 30, of Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years. In exchange for Thielsens guilty plea, prosecuting attorneys dropped other charges and removed the prospect of the death penalty. In 2003, Hemminger was sentenced to seven years in prison after entering a no contest plea to felony aggravated assault. He was originally charged with attempted murder, and attorneys say the case had to do with a stabbing. Court hearings in the case date back to 2001, according to legal documents.
