Ok, I need some help. My boy is turning 8 on Saturday. He is autistic, and so the idea of presents is exciting to him, the quantity is important, because he is obsessed with numbers and he also loves to see the visual of gifts. The problem is, he doesnt play much with what he gets. He is always excited to get things, and hell even occasionally ask for something specific, but the reality is that he only plays with things for a short while, and I do mean short, perhaps only a day or so, and then goes back to doing the things he loves, which is writing endlessly in notebooks about math problems, or pacing through the house repeating things over and over. Yes, when his class was asked to list their favorite activities, his number one choice was pacing. I have gotten him math workbooks before, but in second grade, he is now doing some junior high math, so the workbooks dont challenge him. I always get him notebooks, and he is a card consumer as well, so I have to buy him playing cards several times a year. But notebooks and playing cards arnt much. So my problem is that I really dont want to spend money on things he wont use, he has so many toys now that go unplayed, how do I meet his need for birthday gifts, and he deserves to get them, and my need not to waste my money? Anyone with ideas?
