Ok I want to finish my Miyazaki list so Im going to share my previous posts before class starts, and when I finally get home Ill post the rest of them including my thoughts. First at #10 is Ponyo. Original post: Lets get one thing straight from the start: Miyazaki doesnt make bad movies. Ponyo is not a bad movie, it is simply not a good movie. In my opinion, it is Miyazakis worst. It isnt for lack of imagination or beautiful imagery or boring characters, its because the plot is kind of a mess. Every other Ghibli film pretty much has a focused plot and focused and relevant subplots, but Ponyo is just one thing, then another, then it puts that to the side and becomes another thing, then it brings back the first thing, then the second thing, and then its another thing entirely, and its just all over the place. It was a sweet movie, and Ponyos love for Sosuke was kind of adorable, but I wasnt able to really care much about any of the characters or their relationships aside from Rin/Lin (Sosukes mother) to an extent and Ponyo and Sosuke, and only a little bit. It was alright.
