Ok, Ive bit my tongue and held off alienating people that may disagree, but what kind of man would I be if I stopped speaking my mind because something isnt popular? America, and the World for that matter, has gotten so caught up in instant gratification that the Music world is becoming a damn joke. Instead of honing ones craft, nurturing their talents and quite frankly, paying ones dues, its become hip to go on a Talent Show to skip all that and make it. Where a sad story and a little talent may tug at peoples heart strings enough to garner their vote. Why practice, why perform night in night out, why tour, hell why do anything other than show up, take a number and wait for that instant Fame no matter how brief? And the Judges, dont forget about the Judges. Because we all should live and die with what these random people think. They know what the People want to hear. If they say you suck, then you must suck. And hell if they say you got talent, then it must be true. Look, I applaud anyone that follows their dreams these days and the ones that make it deserve a standing ovation because the deck is stacked against them for damn sure. Hell, back before I ever started RJB, I tried out for Nashville Star and shows like that because thats what people told me you do to make it. Then watching them pick freak shows and anything that would grab ratings over way more talented people than myself, showed me that they cared more about looks and stories than they did about talent. It sent me home motivated to make it the right way, with hard work and dedication. And guess which one got me where I am today, not to mention where Im heading tomorrow? So, Im begging Society to reward hard work, dedication, practice, touring and pure determination over instant shallow satisfaction. Support Independent Musicians and the little guy and gal out there busting their ass to make their dreams come true and make a buck. Restore some balance back to things. Winning feels a whole lot better when you work for it. Okay, Im off my soap box and you may now rejoin your regularly scheduled talent show already in progress... #hardwork=winning
