Ok. Steven Universe is one of the best shows on Cartoon Network in a while (Adventure Time, Regular Show, Clarence, and the Amazing World of Gumball are also great exceptions)! I watched the pilot and instantly fell in love with the animation, characters, music, story, everything! Rebecca Sugar is a genius! When the pilot actually became a show on CN I instantly became excited! The show kept some of the charm from the pilot, but some things did change: For one, the animation changed drastically. I really enjoyed the animation; it was really the best part about the pilot to me. Especially when it came to the design on Pearl; I loved the original design on Pearl; she looked realistic, and her outfit and her hair....OHMIGOD! She and everyone else looks very cartoony, and its sad because the animation was very shadow oriented and took darker colors in every characters palet; now its super bright and in a way cooky. Im a little set back with how the reactions on most of the characters are unbelievably out of control and I really find that obnoxious and way to careless, but then I like it because it shows that theyre free with their animation but then again....not too much. Thankfully the characters arent that much of a problem with the change. There are a few bits here and there, but then they arent really negative. The main thing that I love about Steven Universe is its HEART! There is time, effort, care, and love put into this show that makes it one of the bests! I also love when shows are consistent with their stories and characters and changes that they make in episodes in other episodes because it makes me feel like the writers are actually caring about their show. Why would I bring this up? Well. There was a new two parter episode tonight. Usually the shows running are about 15 minutes each and theyre all usually written as one episode, and then they get combined as two episodes equaling 30min. Here, two new episodes were shown back to back, and was a special half-hour episode. And......uh.......well.....DAMN! The show has never really had a really bad episode in my opinion. Steven and the Stevens and Cheeseburger Backpack werent all that good, but they werent terrible. Here, both Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem were episodes of perfection! Let me tell you why, as if most of you who watch the show dont already know: The animation was beyond beautiful! Yes it was the same as all the other episodes, but with the creation of a new character, it was awesome! The scenes in space and inside the ocean....building....thing was really atmospheric and they really did whatever they wanted with the water effects and achieved it perfectly! Let me talk about the new character Lapis Lazulli: She was one of the best things about these episodes because of my own personal reasons. I used Lapis as my OC before she became a character on the show, so as you could tell when I heard her name, I became instantly picky on how they were gonna portray her. Her design was perfect....different from mine, but she really looked nice. Her character was different, as she was in a way almost like an early Flame Princess from Adventure Time, and Princess Luna from MLP FIM. When she transformed she was beautiful. She was given a wonderful character and design and Im proud if what we were given. The characters were perfect in their roles, but pissed Garnet was SCAREY. Steven will always be a great description of what a child character should be. Everyone was acting wonderfully. I also like how we got a little hint on more of Lars and Sadies relationship! The showa action was alright, I mean Im not a fan of action, but its all still shot nicely. Finally, what does this mean for our characters? What happens next? Greg Universe has a broken leg, and his van is all busted up and broken, so where is he gonna live? Are there going to be more Crystal Gems that havent turned into terrifying monsters? Are Garnet, Amythest, and Pearl going to become corrupt like Lapis and all of the other Crystal Gems? Will Steven now know the powers in his gem, and know how to control and activate them? Will we get more Crystal Gem history? WILL STEVEN AND CONNIE FINALLY KISS?!?! WILL LARS AND SADIE ACTUALLY GET TOGETHER?!?!?!?!? The suspense is killing me!
