Ok. You guys. Lets take a quick break from being Royal, and ponder this: So I went to the city office to transfer my utilities from my current house to my new house, on account of the fact that Im FINALLY MOVING this Friday!!! No big deal. $15, the Nice Lady told me on the phone. Quick transfer. Pay. Must be in person. Sign a paper. Done. So I went. In person. Real quick. Except WAIT. This happened: Turns out the account I need to transfer..my current account...is in DON Bechards name. So HE will have to cancel that one, says the Very Nice City Office Lady. But...ummm...hes not alive, I say. Like, for over six years hes been NOT alive. Soooo...Ive handled this account on my own since September 2008, and Ill just go ahead and close it for him. Im sorry, says the Very Nice City Office Lady, but the account CANT be closed unless HE does it - or we have a death certificate. Annnnd... youll actually have to pay $115 to open a whole new account in YOUR name. Because, see, this account is in HIS name. So YOU cant close it. Just HIM. Or, uh, we need that death certificate, uh, to, uh, get this account closed. But, I say, hes DEAD. I PROMISE. And Im sooooo sorry about that, says VNCOL. But, you know, you can fax that certificate, or mail it, or drop it by, whatever works for you. Then we can get that old account closed and itll be done. And no worries with the new one! We can even split that cost into three payments for you so you dont have to pay it all at once! Blank stare, my face says. Blank. And then I use my words. Nicely. I say, Ive paid our city bill for 22 years....and I have to make a $100 deposit for a NEW account?? But you get that back after 12 months of paying your monthly bill!!! says VNCOL. Again, my face. Blank. Blank. Blank stare. So heres what were pondering tonight. You-and-me, Facebook friends. Why have I been paying Don Bechards damned city bill all this time?!? And what happens if I DONT fax, mail, or drop off the paper that says hes most likely NOT going to show up to cancel the account himself? I think we should all be thankful that Im not as crazy as I could be. :)
