Ok ~ a bit of a rant ~ so it looks like we wont be doing the TV Show after all. The show Off the Beaten Path wanted to film their two actors and our apothecary...as they are traveling throughout the Southeast US. At first, the idea was to simply make herbal preparations and wild-craft. She took that idea to her producers and called me back to say that they said that they wanted a love potion or something to cast off evil. You know, I could easily do the love potion even though it was a bit of a stretch from what we do at our apothecary (we have done aphrodisiac blends before)... But, I kinda got the feeling of where they wanted things to go ~ you know, sensationalism. Then, she called me back today and said that their producers changed their mind ~ they actually wanted to find witches or wiccans. Of which I replied, good luck with that. I had to draw a line as they were getting a bit insane and preparing to make a mockery of work that I take very seriously (seriously playful at times, albeit ~ but serious none-the-less). I mean, REALLY. Believe me, I know some very ethical and beautiful women who call themselves a witch ~ like the author and ecological/social activist Starhawk. However, I knew this TV Show simply wanted to find something in the South to make a mockery of. Further, they wanted to make a mockery of my life-work. I dont have time for that sh**. I would much rather work with someone who wishes to know about the work we do...who we are...why we started this in the first place...the communities we serve...how we work with the plants...what is American Herbalism...where we got our training...where we wish for things to develop...how they can help us get the word out... *Thats* the kind of story and coverage I would be open to. ~ end of rant ~
