Ok all, you will have to thumb through these. These are the actual pictures of the Gettysburg battlefield. I know its not a turn on for everyone. But, the pictures that are after the photo of the sign "Little Round Top" are photos of the place where the 20th Maine under Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, an English Professor from Deerfield, Maine, initiated a textbook maneuver to prevent the Confederate forces, the Alabama forces under Oates, form out flanking the Union forces on the third day of battle, July 3, 1863. It prevented the Confederate forces from breaking the lines of the Union forces and forced them to retreat the next day. This battlefield is miraculously preserved and has a fantastic auto tour. It was the battle in the east that would mark the point where the Confederate forces would never be able again to attempt an invasion of the North. From this point on, it was a defensive war for the South. THey have just opened a new visitors center in 2008 that is magnificent.
