Ok dirt race fans lets hear from you. I just located this piece of info for dirt tracks to help them help themselves become a better track for the race fans: How often do you look critically your own show and how you could make it better? Here’s an idea from the Workshops. If you have a dirt track and it gets dusty, you are driving away fans. That’s all there is to it. Don’t kid yourself about it. Fans who bring goggles and face masks are an amusing novelty, bless their hearts, but they are not many enough to cover the cost of operation. Airborne grit these days is practically unavoidable, but consistent choking dust is an unacceptable business killer. If you’re racing 100 or more cars a night, you know it’s difficult to make the track hold up, but prepare the track better. Get more water in it. Get it to hold more moisture. Shorten the night to cut wear and tear on the surface. Everybody will be happier. Shorten or drop hot laps. Eliminate time trials with point average handicapping. Shorten races. Start later, finish earlier. Get your soil analyzed and improve its composition, or use additives to cut dust. But most important, do not dismiss your fan’s unspoken objection to dust. They tolerate it, but never assume they do not find it a nuisance on race night. Cater to today’s health consciousness. If, after your races, you can see dirt going down your shower drain, your fans are too, and many will think twice about returning.
