Ok folks: here is the low down on places to eat in the Hill Country! River City Grille 700 First St Marble Falls, Texas 830-798-9909 What we ate: Paul’s Chicken: Chicken breast, rolled in crushed potato chips, fried and topped with green chile sauce and jack cheese. We shared, and there were two chicken breasts on our plate—plenty of food to share! Served with green chile rice and salad. 14.59 Salt Lick Bar-b-que 3350 E Palm Valley Blvd Round Rock, TX 78665 Restaurant: 512-386-1044 What we ate: We shared a combined plate of ribs, sausage, chicken, brisket; reasonable prices, portions big enough to share. Atmosphere is a little noisy, though. The Hungry Horse 109 Saunders St Boerne, TX 78006 (830) 816-8989 What we ate: Regular size Chicken Fried Steak: We shared this one order that included two medium sized chicken fried steaks covered with gravy: comes with three sides (a large salad counts as two sides). They also serve Dublin soft drinks (these drinks are overpriced at $2.25 a bottle). But you can get fountain drinks less expensively. The Patio (Love Creek Orchards) Hwy 16 Medina, TX 78055 (830) 589-2588 What we ate: Apple pie and soft served apple ice-cream. We just stopped to eat dessert. We visited with a delightful elderly trio who recommended Kerrville and The Café at the Ridge (see our recommendation). The apple pie and ice cream were incredible, generous portions. Self-serve dessert. However, the pie would have been much better were it heated. As it was, the ice cream was better—but both were excellent! We saw some of the sandwiches there: huge. They looked wonderful. Café at the Ridge 13439 S. Ranch Road 783 Kerrville, TX 78028 (830) 896-0420 What we ate: Feta-Chicken Salad and bowl of pinto beans. Good size portion (I ordered a small salad at around $7 and Terri’s good sized bowl of beans were $4.50). Food was excellent. The beans were cooked with jalapenos, onions, and tomatoes. Shredded cheddar cheese on top. We saw the sandwiches which were huge! Desserts are made from scratch on the premises.
