Ok folks in Hancock, Lanesboro, Cheshire - time to join the fray! I know, many of you already have - now is the opportunity to get your friends and neighbors up to speed about this proposed fracked gas pipeline and why fracked gas is NOT clean (fracking just one well, one time pollutes millions of gallons of water - and we have no way to clean that water back up to drinking water standards!) Fracking well are also being found, by independent researchers, to emit enough methane to negate the benefits from a climate change perspective, of switching from coal to fracked gas. Fracked gas wont be cheap - more pipelines wont keep the price where it is now. These pipelines will deliver more fracked gas for export - even the US Energy Information Admin says that will drive fracked gas prices up in the US. Fracked gas wont be reliable. Fracked gas may run out much, much sooner than big oil and gas are saying. (see Drilling Deeper, by geologist J David Hughes, who has a good track record of predicting depletion of shale plays.) And, we do not need new pipelines - we can dramatically reduce our fossil energy use. We can up our energy efficiency programs, change our time-of-day usage, add more storage, and add lots of distributed renewable clean energy. For home heating and hot water heating - renewable thermal heat pump technology is now available to dramatically reduce energy consumption and heat your home or hot water at a fraction of the cost of oil or electric resistant heating (think baseboards). Massachusetts has a law - the Global Warming Solutions Act - that requires us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. We cant do that by increasing the amount of fracked gas we are currently using. We need this, today, to be our peak fracked gas use and work from this peak to reduce our fracked gas use. Jane
