Ok, guys...I wonder what Ill get for comments on this one...Here goes: I am working on an interesting build right now as an experiment...I started with a long square turners stock piece of hard oak from Lowes (about 3.5 inch square) and doubled it up on one end. (see pics) then I made some rough (very very rough) cuts to form a neck and stub piece...next I cut out a section all the way through the thick end so that it formed a tuning fork type kinda feel so I could spead them out and form a body..I know, nothing strange here, it is how the backpackers are build without the double body I figured I would try....NOW, here is the thing. I am building this kinda shoddy on purpose..I am not paying close attention to cut measurements or spending a ton of time (care) to sand every glue edge flat etc...I am also throwing caution to the wind with materials; I am using crappy birtch left over ply wood for the top and back of the body (you know, the kind that is riddled with hollow spots within the pulp and scrap they squeeze between two thin slabs of warped birch) The back slab I glued in to hold the flaps apart is and old crack infested piece of an old pallet, and the whole thing is going to be thrown together with a little less than proper care!!!....Why? you ask, Because it seems like it just might work out brilliantly, and in this no rules environment, I wanna see just how good a quick crappy build, made with bottom rung materials can be...That way, if this comes out as good as it really seems it will, then I know a bit more about how awesome my future builds can be..You know, the ones I make with quality woods and lots of care and patients!!!....What do ya all think...Am I crazy?
