Ok, here are two things that need to be known about this: 1) Yes it is dumb. This was in memory of the teams two teammates that passed away in which, yes, this was their religion so the team was in agreement of wearing the crosses. This shouldnt be a problem, right? WELL. 2) Remember that picture that was going viral on the internet of two of our players standing next to each other? (Clark and Griswold) Well you can also see the crosses on their helmets in that picture. People outside of our community at ASTATE have no idea what the crosses are for other than thinking that the college (a public institution) openly supports the christian religion. The uniforms are school property so that wouldnt be a crazy assumption. All in all yes this is a pretty dumb situation because nobody at ASTATE really minds it, especially the Football players which is what truly matters because they are the one doing it in memory. But honestly I wouldnt get mad at the school for having the team remove them because again, those uniforms are school property. People outside the ASTATE community are going to see the players and will not know why they are endorsing Christianity. And second, dont see it as an attack on your religion. It just is what it is. We learn in teacher education that we are to keep those personal beliefs to ourselves. And since Arkansas State is a learning institution, such accommodations are going to be made whether we like it or not.
