Ok, here is a brief update for the Thursday/Friday time frame. We will have a full update later on this evening. We see a cloudy Thursday then in the afternoon hours we see rain move in. When the rain moves in, it will start as all rain. Now as the evening transitions into evening, we see the threat for freezing rain to affect all of Burke, Caldwell and McDowell Counties. This threat will last through mid morning Friday before, things warm above freezing. In fact late Thursday night into early Friday morning, we are watching a upper level low that will travel into the area from Alabama. If this happens we could actually see freezing rain turn into snow. before it moves out of the area and transitions back into freezing rain and rain. South Mountains, NW Burke and Eastern facing slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Northern Caldwell you could see an extended period of freezing rain, developing into a potential of moderate to heavy ice accretion. This forecast has the potential to be a huge bust on either side. One thing that we are lacking for this to be a major storm, is we will not have a strong high pressure in place to give us a big pool of cold air, it will be retreating Friday morning, bringing in warmer temps, but by then the damage may be already done. One or two degrees warmer could give us just a cold rain, One or two degrees colder could give us more snow or sleet. So this has a huge bust potential. We can honestly say we do believe you will see wintry precip, we just dont know how much, how cold, and where at... I am sorry there are just a lot of unknowns right now... Hopefully by 8-9 pm we will have a better idea...
