Ok, heres my initial review of the new Pink Floyd album, The Endless River. I like it. :-) The album is comprised of many separate musical ideas which had been recorded primarily during the sessions for the The Division Bell, which was released in 1994, so the keyboards of Richard Wright (who died of cancer in 2008) are prominently featured. David Gilmour fans have nothing to worry about - there are lots of tasty guitar licks and solos thought the disc. As a result of taking all those separate musical ideas, it doesnt have the flow of, say, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, parts 1-5 & parts 6-9 from Wish You Were Here. There isnt a thread which which neatly sews multiple tracks together, so it feels more like a collection of songs. With the exception of the song Louder Than Words, the rest is instrumental. After my first listen, that song seemed to grab my attention the most. Theres nothing necessarily earth-shattering, just expect some great music, and a bit on the mellow/smooth side. Like a fine wine, Im sure I will appreciate The Endless River more and more with time. I can taste hints of Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and of course, The Division Bell. For those who are about to get it, enjoy! Aart (Floyd) Barfunkle
