Ok its time to address this thing. By now its no secret that the allegations are true, and Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of Lostprophets, pleaded guilty last month. His sentencing will take place on Dec. 18. First and foremost, I need to say that what Watkins did was disgusting, horrible, and heinous, and he should absolutely be punished for it. As such, Underground Takeovers deepest sympathies go out to allI his victims, family, and anyone else involved for having had to go through this terrible experience. I know that nothing will heal those wounds anytime soon (if ever), but thoughts are with you all. Secondly, I need to say something from the music standpoint. As a music journalist, DJ, former band member, and music entrepreneur, I know firsthand how unbelievably difficult and frustrating it can be to get anywhere in this industry. People spend their whole lives trying to hack out a living, not because they wanna be famous pop stars, but because they really feel the need every morning to play music. Like waking up and breathing, this is what they need to do. And here is a band who, 15 years ago, had the great luck to achieve mainstream success and find the ability to do what they love for money and adoration, something most every musician seeks out. And now, the other five guys in the band (Jamie Oliver, Lee Gaze, Mike Lewis, Stuart Richardson, and Luke Johnson) have decided to end the band, and try to move on from this. What makes me so upset with regard to this is that these guys did nothing wrong in this whole situation (not knowing what Watkins was doing to these people), and now have had essentially their whole livelihoods (and maybe reputations) ripped from them. This industry is hard enough without dragging other people down with you when youre going down in flames. Just thoughts, but it seems this situation ended the worst way possible. There is no place for these selfish, disgusting, toxic people in our music industry. Once again, thoughts out to all the people touched by this terrible news; youre in our hearts. #disgusted
