Ok lets have a look at this article. A company makes signs for their workers and tells them it will pay them to Picket the headquarters of the union that represents them for 2 hours. Lets think about that for a moment and look at how the media covers this. Firstly if it were the other way around it would be illegal for the workers to be paid and they would be docked 4 hours pay, they would also potentially be facing a $10,400 fine for unprotected illegal industrial action The paper forgets to mention any of that. Secondly these people are lowly paid unskilled workers in an industry notorious for its exploitation of foreign workers. (Cleanstart campaign, check it out) What worker is going to tell the employer no to doing this in an industry with that sort of job security? The paper would have you think these people dont want better conditions and that they want their employer to pay them less and that the pesky union is getting in the way of this. Our economy is capitalist, it is built on the premise of the rich trying to pit working people against each other in a race to the bottom on who will work for less in order to create more profit for the rich (competition, sounds nice when you call it that though doesnt it) Once you understand the structure of our economy you understand the only obstacle in the way of this competition is working people joining forces for their common good in order to not be taken advantage of......
