Ok, rant time. Something has been bothering me lately...we have NO credit cards, no debt to anyone, pay cash for anything we want (save up if we have to). We dont believe in owing anyone. Problem is...if we wanted to buy, say a new camper with at least half down in cash (under $20K total probably), we HAVE to have credit. A guy ran ours the other day and its nothing but ZEROS! He said its going to be impossible to finance something with no recent credit history. The vehicles weve bought over the years have been financed through dealers who dont report to the Big 3 and even letters from them stating our perfect payment history isnt enough as it has to be continuously reported during the loan. I think its absolutely INSANE that we HAVE to have credit. What if people dont believe in that? What if we dont WANT to owe anyone? I get the fact that they would have no way of knowing how well we do pay, but please! Good, verifiable income, no debts, whats the freaking problem? Is this country that screwed up? Used to be in the old days, people paid cash, avoided credit and if they did run up a bill at the general store, it was paid off when the harvest came in or the cows were sold. And it worked. Stupid country now! Our credit union is having a seminar next week about Understanding Your Credit Score and Im going. I am going to stand up and ask the experts about all this. Why we are treated as 2nd class citizens when we are actually doing what we SHOULD be doing?!
