Ok, so I sound like a broken record....but Angel + Autism/Compulsive disorder = mind boggling/stress inducing/hair-pulling events. Just as I think we have a pretty good grasp on things, the hold slips. One simply can not reason with, get a point across to stick, or let your guard down. No, thats not a statement which includes everyone with her issues. Im strictly speaking from my vast knowledge of Angel. Bless our great friends heart!! Shauna came to stay with the kids yesterday while Barbie and I got out of the house for the day to shop and run errands. Angel had some issues, got caught in lies, and proceeded to go nuts with body language and pounded herself in the face again. We do not show her empathy when she does this. Dont misunderstand me, I do NOT have empathy for her behaviors, but I do for the reason behind them...but we do NOT make that an excuse for her outbursts. However, I do believe she has a certain amount of control over her behaviors. Shes proven that. Example, we have never allowed the self stim behaviors (most can be curved). One is rocking. Her place to rock is in a rocking chair or swing. She rarely ever has to be redirected about that behavior. Most of her knowledge may be hindsight based, and she can do wonders with social stories...making all the right choices....not in real life!! Any time she does has any negative behaviors, my already anxious child, Chloe hides...Brayden goes ballistic. Hhmm, you say remove them or her from the situation...impossible. Angel goes from 0-to-100 before you can blink. The episodes are not real often, and granted the psych is messing with her meds...but when they do happen, its very very stressful in this house. She is punished by having privileges that she thinks she cant live without removed, and reminded for 2 days why. Solution? Are there really any? Taking Angel with us for errands today was not a privilege for her. Sorta worked to my advantage since she didnt want to go. Dont ya love it when it falls in your favor? 😉 (Side note....notice Chloe actually taking a bite of bread? She LOVES Normas rolls. She cant polish one off, but thats all she wants. That and ice).
