Ok so I usually dont do these but what the heck. So I got the #8--here are 8 facts about me that most of you (or at least some of you) probably dont know: #1: When I was 4 months pregnant with Alex, I was crossing the street from the cafeteria back to my dorm at LSU, and was hit by a truck that ran a stop sign. The guy got out of his car to check his tires b/c he thought he hit the curb--shows how much he was paying attention. Aside from a gash on my head and a couple black eyes I was actually completely ok and so was Alex thank God. Now I can brag about my fancy stunt roll across the hood of an F-150, but am still very hesitant when crossing a street b/c you can never assume the driver sees you. #2: Once I graduate college (in May 2014 woo hoo!!), I want to start a fundraiser (walkathon, etc.) for Ovarian Cancer Awareness in Baton Rouge, and possibly other areas in Louisiana. I have yet to see one being held for that cause and it is something near and dear to my heart since that is what my mother passed away from. Ovarian Cancer is almost, if not more, deadly than breast cancer now and is SO much harder to detect because the blood tests only come back correct 1/4 of the time and ultrasounds do not always detect it. Plus many insurance companies do not cover these two methods as preventative like they do for mammograms so many people opt to not get checked b/c they have to pay out of pocket. #3: Some items on my lifes bucket list are: going on a mission trip(s) with my kids, getting my Master’s degree (after a nice break from school first of course), and if, God-willing, I am financially able to I would love one day when my kids are older, to adopt or at least be a foster-parent to a child(ren). #4: Summary of my 10+ year college career: started in the Fall of 2002 living in a dorm with my best friend Brenna Hanly, was accepted into the Honors College, pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education and English. I have been in school the entire time with the exception of a year off when Alex was born and one semester off when Remie was born. 11 years later I am renting a townhouse with my two girls, pushing to keep a 2.5 GPA and pursuing a degree in English-Literature with a minor in Leadership Development. Its crazy how life changes when certain events/negative people change things but either way Ill be done and hopefully will help set an example to my girls never to give up on their lifes goals. #5: Ive only dated one person in my entire life and we were together for 10 years. This limitation of dating experience has made me both eager yet extremely nervous to take the step to go out with someone again; not to mention the fact that now I have kids which are my #1 priority. #6: I write left-handed but my right arm is actually my strongest. When I played softball I confused the other team b/c I threw right-handed even though I batted as a leftie and in volleyball I served underhand with my left hand but overhand & spiked with my right hand. Taking that even further, when I kick a ball I use my right leg too so apparently my left-side is only good for precise, detailed things and my right-side is the stronger, athletic side. #7: I grew up riding 3-wheelers (and later 4-wheelers), going to my dads hunting camp and shooting coke cans with his shotgun, and backpack camping with the scouts, so I love being outdoors and I wouldnt say that Im scared of snakes or bugs-I just dont like being surprised by them falling/flying/striking at me. But if a bug gets in my house, I crush it to death with the closest shoe Lol #8: Related to #6, when I was in high school I was part of a co-ed scout group of high school & college age kids, known as a Venture Crew. We went backpack camping in the middle of Kisatchie National Forest, took trips to Destin, climbed huge rock walls, and played Capture the Flag in total darkness in the middle of Camp Avondale while the coyotes howled nearby, and so much more. I really miss those days; I had so much fun with everyone! Hope you all enjoyed it! Feel free to like it up, but dont worry, I wont be continuing this by assigning more numbers to you. ~*Melissa*~
