Ok, so Ive calmed down a bit but I have just come home from school - TopicsExpress

Ok, so Ive calmed down a bit but I have just come home from school to discover Brooklyn (daughter) was at school swimming lessons at the long tan pool today when she was evacuated with the bomb threat. Police everywhere, huge operation, still waiting to here the outcome of what it was over four hours later it is still in lockdown. Now for my angry part, I arrive at school to receive a small typed note addressed to the whole school explaining the situation and that they were evacuated etc etc and that they were monitored upon returning to school and offered councilling if any showed signs of needing it. In light of such note and not even a phone call personally to parents, I have written the following letter to my school, I would think as a parent for the past ten years at the school as well as any parent whos child was involved, we should have be notified personally and as soon as possible of our children being involved in such an event, and not by a note unlike the headlice notes sent home on occasion. Letter to school: Firstly let me say I appreciate the immediate efforts of teachers, police and staff involved in the safe evacuation of our children from long tan today during the suspected Bomb threat. I am sure our children were the highest priority and appreciate the care and actions of all involved. I would like to express though, my disappointment at finding out about my daughters possibly traumatic experience over 3 hours later and by a note sent home with children. As only two classes were directly involved I would have expected a phone call from the school at the earliest convenience to explain that our children were safe however had been involved in this event. The note we as parents received was a general whole school note and akin to the headlice notes we receive home from school and I would have expected a greater respect from the school at a personal level that my child was involved in this event as soon as possible. Please take a moment to think how you may have reacted in the same situation if it were your child involved. I also read in the note that children were monitored and offered counseling if deemed necessary. Where a situation is serious enough to warrant possible counseling, I would expect to be notified ASAP and not through means of a quick note home at the end of the day. Please understand I am grateful for the care and wellbeing the school demonstrated, but in future, a simple phone call to the parents of children involved would be appreciated. Yours sincerely, Tanya and Corie Ross
