Ok, so as tagged by Morag, I have to give nine things (nine!) you might not know about me. 1. I once counted it up, and I have had over 50 jobs (possibly exactly 50). My first job was washing up in an old folks home for £1.25 an hour. I made £3.75 a week and was saving up to go to Japan. I went to Japan. I may have had help. 2. When I was four I announced that when I was 16, I was going to change my name to Rainbow Bright. When I actually turned 16, I experimented with adding Rainbow as an middle name, in respect to my four year old self. 3. Talking of names, Maran is a first generation surname - the only other family folk who have it are my brother Matthew, and now Ari. And soon Kwee. We are building a dynasty. It comes from my great grandmother - her name was Mary Anne, but she was known as Maran. Hence the unusual spelling. 4. When I was wee I used to go brown as a berry just by looking at the sun. Then when I was 13 I spent a ill-fated day in Connecticut alternating between the hot sun, and cool pool, and a hot tub. I had no suncream on and got the worst sunburn Ive ever seen - my back was a series of large blisters. Since then, I barely tan. 5. A doctor in France once told me I have an extra bone in my ankle, explaining why I tend to fall over on it a lot (something I now avoid through the judicious application of sensible shoes - its not a lesbian thing. Id love to wear unsensible shoes). No doctor has since told me that, so the French doctor was either incredibly a genius, or not. 6. I was born in Northampton. I immediately lived in Milton Keynes for the first three years of my life, but Milton Keynes didnt have a hospital at that stage. My mother gave birth under hypnosis, before everybody was doing it. 7. I used to suffer from severe needle phobia. I have it under control now, but there are a few things I should be vaccinated against and am not. 8. Ten years ago (ish) most of my friends were boys. I now have relatively few close male friends, and sometimes that makes me sad. 9. I went to grammar school a year early (when I was 10) but it didnt work out, and when I was 12 I dropped back down a year. I was most grateful for this when I got to leave school after fifth form - otherwise Id have had to stay on for a further two years as I wouldnt have turned 16 yet. I have since done very little formal education and I dont really like it. Its ironic that I now work at a university. Some of you might have known these things - my mother, for example, definitely knows #6 - but hopefully you all have one thing on this list that made you go huh. If you like this Im supposed to give you a number, but you are also allowed to like it and not play, I wont hunt you down or nothin.
