Ok then, off the topic of the pros and cons of cinephelia... I saw Kwaidan last night on TCM (except for the remainder of the last story, it was very late and I had to tear myself away as it was a school night). What an incredible film. Ive seen Kabuki theater and noticed that there were some stylistic elements that came from theater. This made me think of Fellinis Casanova, which also had, to some extent, elements of the theater in terms of design. Thinking now about whether, past the silent era, there have been American films that incorporated stage set type design and/or manners of moving which were taken, with purpose, from theater. Anyway, here are 2 stills I grabbed while watching.
