Ok, this happened last night at about 2:30am (and wasnt exactly in the area), but thought wed still share... As we were leaving Fourth Avenue, a ridiculous scenario took place. We stopped at the light at Speedway and Campbell and watched a white Acura Legend, on shiny rims, come northbound on Campbell at a high rate of speed. It took a right turn, going at an Indy car pace, and proceeded eastbound quickly. Sitting next to us on Speedway was a UA patrol cruiser. When the light turned green, it quickly caught up with the Acura, which had stopped at the light at Tucson Blvd. We can only assume the officer was inputting the plate info and calling in his upcoming traffic stop, because he hadnt lit up the car yet. When the light changed, the Acura started to rapidly take off again, apparently not realizing the cruiser was behind them. After a couple of seconds, the cruisers lights came on... and the Acura accelerated to damn near Warp Factor 1. (Obviously, someone who has mancrushed over Fast and Furious way too many times.) The cruiser starts to give chase. We start to get supergiddy and follow at an excited, but legally reasonable clip. The Acura COMPLETELY flies through the red light at Country Club and is still gaining ludacris speed. The cruiser... Stops at the red light, sits for a second, in what looked like confusion, and shuts down. The white car is SERIOUSLY no where to be seen ahead on Speedway. The patrol car turns southbound on Country Club and casually drives away. What the...?!!!! We continue on, emotionally defeated by not seeing a chase that surely would have earned Tucson another jab from Seth Macfarlane on one of his shows. (We also later pass the 7-11 at Speedway and Columbus and there is the Acura, sitting in the parking lot.) Anyone out there know why the UA cruiser shut down? Or didnt call for backup from TPD? There was no traffic or danger to the public. The car CLEARLY was breaking a million laws... and the University of Arizona PD have to be chomping at the bit to chase the crap out of someone. Weirdness.
