Ok yes, Brighton is looking more and more like a war zone thanks - TopicsExpress

Ok yes, Brighton is looking more and more like a war zone thanks to the council workers strike. I also understand that wading through used tampons and other questionable sanitary items is a bit much given the amount of council tax the residents of Brighton have to fork out every month; but I find it utterly bizarre that so few people are in support of the strikers. The facts are this: The people who collect the rubbish in Brighton are being forced to take up to £4k pay cuts in a dodgy effort for the Green led council to save money in alignment with the government’s wider ‘austerity’ measures. I find it entirely infuriating to see us sit back and do absolutely NOTHING when we are so openly robbed by unscrupulous bankers or over-paid chief executives, but when those with little more than a pot to piss in decide to take a real stand against greedy and pernicious bureaucrats we are so quick to demand their heads on a spike. When we’re wading through even more uncollected rubbish and the streets of Brighton end up looking more like the slums of Nairobi, maybe then we’ll start to realise just what an important job these people really do for us. If we WEREN’T having to hurdle empty Coke bottles and used nappies, their point wouldn’t really have been made effectively... would it? Don’t for one second think that people AREN’T going to be losing their jobs over this and that all the strikers are going to come away smelling of roses. Sometimes things need to be said and actions need to be taken. Personally, I applaud the people brave enough to do that.
