Okay - Not a good start to birthing for our breakout-brood. Yes, we are now finally starting to see the babies that resulted from the massive breakout we had a year ago (on 8/27/13 to be exact). We were out (very) late for feeding and notice that one of our girls, Selene, was off by herself, and surprise, had a baby head sticking out of the back end. We got her separated out in a nice little grassy pen we have for birthing and separation. I assessed and found the baby was not alive any more, eyes cloudy.. Baby still has to come out, saw baby head but no feet. Fished around, found one foot a little way back. Squirted a bunch of mineral oil in there around baby to lube and loosen things up. Fished around, found other leg folded back, slight dystocia, managed to get leg straightened out to have proper Nosentoes presentation. Started pulling baby out gently, dont wanna hurt momma. Pulled and pulled. Momma didnt seem to be having any labor contractions, that makes it tough to get baby out.. FINALLY got baby out, all white, girl.. dead.. - Not a good start for this ordeal.. Its 3:30 in the morning, just totally spent.. Sometimes this whole thing with Alpacas just sucks..
