Okay - had an update on the pups! There has been a bit of a misunderstanding as to the perception of my role as fosterer vs owner and paperwork not quite reflecting what either party understood, however, that is all resolved now. The pups indeed have been quite sick, poor wee mites, but they are lucky wee mites, because of the situation of their birth and how they were raised they were never given up on and have had way more put into them than many would. Reckon they should be cats - they seem to be ticking their lives off like felines rather than canines. The good news is BooBoo has gone to a new home - he went on Friday! The girls are being held a little bit longer to get their strength back, but were cleared as well again late last week. They are being fed good stuff to build them up again, will be spayed as soon as they are strong and ready for adoption. Of course the SPCA are inundated with puppies - all little brown dogs of mixed heritage, so theyll just have to rely on their superior charm to outshine everyone else in there to get homes; naturally all the dogs are deserving of homes as soon as possible, but these ones are special, huh. ;) For those of you that are local and like to visit gardens, I think the SPCA have the garden open day fundraiser for Jean Sanders garden coming up in October sometime so get yourself along to that. I am rarely able to make it as the weekend always clashes with a favourite agility show - and this year Ill be celebrating a friends 50th birthday - gaaarrrds, were all getting so old! Half a blimmin century. But they say 50 is the new 40, and I sure hope so, because itll be my turn before the year is out. Our SPCA people do heaps of extra stuff to raise money for the Centre - which, since I used to volunteer down there has grown to two or three times the size it used to be with way more pens and play areas up the hill. I assume the cat area expanded as well, but I rarely go in there: its bad enough with dogs, but I can resist most of them... however as I am now down to one cat (where at one time I had three or four), going to visit the cattery would be dynamite and I have said no more cats for quite some time. So thats the update - and the sun is actually shining today and there isnt a cold wind either, so its back outside for me to continue washing and drying heaps of dog bedding and such in the one fine day we have (the forecast is sh*te). I have even forsworn going for a ride on my new bike so that I can make the most of the sun with all of my dogs, rather than just one or two at a time. And if any of you following this page are still thinking about Bear, Bean or Baloo Im sure the SPCA would really LOVE to hear from you! Thank you all for your moral support - right throughout this whole snowballed saga (which seems as though its just keepin on rollin) it has been so gratifying for me to know that people were behind me in what I have tried to do for one stray and, as it turned out, very sick dog. What has been achieved wouldnt have been possible without the SPCA at my back as well. It would just be too sad if the puppies dont pull through, but that too is part of fostering: you have to accept that sometimes it doesnt happen - they were well behind the startline to begin with, but at least they have had every chance possible. Until they were sick they have been in puppy school at the Centre to learn some manners, and of course anyone who adopts one of them gets a voucher to come to the first four weeks of my training class... so hopefully if I can catch up with the new owner of Boo, then I should be able to see him in November (the October class is full!).
