Okay - this is a massive pet peeve of mine and I have to get it out! LOTR fans will completely understand where Im coming from while other folks will just think Im weird. Thats okay with me! So in the first LOTR movie there is a scene after one of the wraiths stabs Frodo on Weathertop where Arwen shows up and takes Frodo with her to Rivendell. In the book this scene does happen but the Elf that shows up is a male of Elronds house, but certainly not Arwen. In the movie Elrond sends Elfs out looking for Strider and the Hobbits when they hear the Ringwraiths are about. And were to believe that he proactively sent his only daughter into the wilderness with 9 Ringwraiths on the loose. Yet, in the rest of the film and the following 2 movies we see Elrond go out of his way to protect Arwen from everything and anything and shes barely allowed to walk around, let alone go by herself into the wilderness where evil lies in wait for her. I personally think this is the biggest blunder made by Peter Jackson in all the LOTR movies. By rewriting this small but significant scene he really messed up. Im positive he did this because he needed to show Liv Tyler earlier in the movie somehow - either because it was in her contract or because he felt it was necessary. In other words I think the decision for this change had to so with money or marketing and not for the quality of the story. There, now Ive said it and I feel better! Thanks for listening!
