Okay- ObamaCare is a government takeover of health care, right? Evil, evil evil, socialist Marxist anti business. This is what we hear from the party of small government and less regulation. So they are going to pass a bill. A bill which allows insurers - does not mandate it, simply allows- to continue to offer all these plans people seem to be so upset about seeing their junk insurance get cancelled. So net effect? Some of the really cheap rip off policies probably will return- I assume that there will be no penalty for them only paying out 35% of premiums in benefits if they are returning under the permission to offer substandard plans in the bill. Companies like the one that simply pulled out of the individual market in CA- they probably wont offer their insureds a continuation, they cancelled to start with because they wanted out. Net effect of passage of this bill? Probably very little, except that if the repubs now promise to fix the problem of folks getting cancelled and it doesnt, now they get the blame, not Obama. Rumor has it that Mary Landau (spelling?) is going to introduce a slightly different bill-one that mandates that the insurers all keep those policies and perhaps even rescind all the cancellations. Now which party is is that wants a government takeover of health care????? Finally on Chris Hayes- someone on television actually saying what Ive been saying- what the hell did people think Obama meant when he said you can keep your present insurance, you can keep your doctor.? Did they really think that insurance policies would not change (some change every year, or did when I was working and getting insured that way), that doctors dont move, retire, die ? In context, what Obama was saying was nothing in the ACA would affect whether or not you kept your policy, or your doctor. And the context was there, at least in most of his speeches. Of course, I think he, like I do, sometimes gives the American public too much credit for being smart enough to pour piss out of a boot. His meaning was crystal clear to me. The only way to let everyone keep exactly the policy they have and like (even if it is crap) is precisely that government takeover the right wing cries about. The only way for everyone to keep their doctor would be by forcing them to work in the same practice in the same area they are right now. Youd have to pretty much enslave physicians.
