Okay Im going to take a break here from the walking dead and actually consider what a zombie outbreak would be like in america, or even the world. I would wager that once the initial panic subsided, the death toll would maybe be 1 or 2 billion world wide at the MOST and then, especially in america, nothing would really change. if they were zombies like the ones in the walking dead and considering how many people own guns and how easy it is to get them, shooting zombies on your way to work would be commonplace. Sure, the marines may be a regular sight around the neighborhood, but it would not be the end of humanity by any means. Remember in season 1 where there was a tank in downtown that had been overrun? How would that ever happen? It wouldnt. The human race could EASILY survive a zombie outbreak.
