Okay, Nita Lopez, I do not usually take any nominations on Facebook ... but I will make an exception this one time for you. And, to spare my other friends, I will probably not nominate others. Just my prerogative, I guess. I was nominated to say, for the next seven days, three things I am grateful for. (1) I am grateful to have friends like Nita ... individuals that are friends for life. Our family moved to Bakersfield in 1964, where my father pastored Trinity Baptist Church. Nitas father, Ulys Elliott, was the music leader. So, I have known Nita and her family for 50 years! Long-time friendships bring joy. (2) I am grateful for godly parents. My dad was a great role model, a wonderful man that I loved and admired and learned from. My mom was the disciplinarian who loved us seven kids with all her heart. She made sure we practiced our music, made sure we did our homework, made sure we were involved in church, made sure we memorized Scripture, and made sure we knew God personally for daily life. Godly parents bring structure and discipline and maturity in spiritual life. (3). I am grateful for my wife, Sondra. She has a spiritual depth that brings me confidence in our journey of life together. She is a special person, one who has been a loving and supportive wife through all the crazy things we have gone through. Come this December, we will celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary. It is awesome to live life with the one you love, one who brings fulfillment in both happy times and chaotic times.
