Okay, heads up people! I have been getting calls for two days now from an unknown overseas number. The first time, yesterday, it registered Tokyo and the rest from the US. Just a while ago it tried to call me again and this ti.me it registered Illinois. I asked a friend of mine who is from the US ( BTW, take note I am from the Philippines ) if he could help me verify the area code for Illinois and sent him a screenshot of the number calling me. He googled the number and heres what he found out: The number is registered to a certain Equivoice Debt Collector_Wheeling, IL. Apparently its a scam where they call random people saying you owe money hoping youll send a check for it. There were also cases where the caller said he was with the IRS and told people they owe back taxes and needed to send a check and targeted elderlies. Sadly, there were a lot of people who did believe and sent tons of money. I sure am glad I didnt answer any of the calls as I normally do not answer unknown numbers. I am using a prepaid sim card and here in our country, prepaid numbers arent registered. One can change numbers as often as they want and doesnt need any I.D. to get a new sim card unlike in other countries so I dont know how they are getting numbers. I am posting screenshots of the numbers and will be making this post public so you can help me spread this out hoping no one else gets victimized. Apparently, you are not safe even though you are from overseas. So lets be vigilant people and please spread the word. Special thanks to Jeff Bowerman for his help 😘
