Okay, heres our problem with buying or building right - TopicsExpress

Okay, heres our problem with buying or building right now... First off, we have 0 credit because we have been living debt free for the past 6 years. Great I know, & I really dont want to change that, but.. we are currently living right next to a road, within the city limits with no room to garden or have a small farm/homestead. Problem #1. The bank wont loan us the money to build a small house (we can build on 20 acres that has been in my husbands family for generations, and 4 of those acres are already his as soon as we decide to use them. Problem #2. We could maybe get one of those mobile homes and put it out there and pay it off as we homestead... but thats not even a for sure thing that they would work with us. 0 credit and all. Problem #3. The house we are currently living in has been offered to us if we want to buy it, and go the land contract way (completely trustworthy older family members who just want rid of it, no financial burden to them either). But do you think this county will be safe to live that close to any town in the next few years? I guess what concerns me is, I dont want to go back into debt because I know what it is like to not have that over you, yet I have a burning inside that keeps telling me we need to get started on our homesteading now, so is it wise to go the route of the mobile home, provided they will work with us? Or try to do something else? If anyone has any ideas of something else that I havent thought of yet let me know. Weve even looked into those sheds but Im afraid we would need more space than that. Tax returns will be here around the end of February so that is why we want to do something soon. While we can drill for a well or build a barn or something like that too..
