Okay, ladies and gents, everybody want to know about NOAH, see I got this BIBLE of HERITAGE EDITION. MEN AND WOMEN OF COLOR IN THE BIBLE (THE TBLE OF NATIONS), here is what I find about NOAH, you be surpirse. We are greatly indebted to Moses for providing this compact and yet quite detailed list of early beginnings of so many tribes and peoles. Recent archeoloical discoveries had supported the validity of this generalogical table. But wherein doe this list of nations shed light on our quest for historical references to people of color? The list itself makes no reference to color, yet it yields a great deal of information indeed, once we have the key. Cush was the name of Hams oldest son. Some commentators say that Cush means black. Thismay or may not relate to the meaning of the mans name in his own tongue (whatever that may have been). But we do know that the Cushites were indentified as a people of dark commplexion. In the Eygptian records they are called Negroes, as though distinguishing then from the Eygptians themselves. It must be remembered, however, that the original Cushites and the original Egyptans were alike Hamitic. In the King James Version of the Bible, Cushite is synonymous with Ethopian. The latter term is from the Greek aithiops, meaning sun-burned face. Forunately for our purpose in this historical study, the Egyptias recorded many events and peoples by means of pictures. In a wall painting from an Egyptian tomb dating from the fourteenth century B.C., some ancient artist depicted several races of peoples. all lined up. There are the Cushites, black-skinned; then the Asiatics, or Canaanites, pictured as dark brown; and the Egyptians themselves, a reddish brown. Judging from their family relationship, not only the Cushites and Egyptians, but also the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Phoenicians, the Hittites, the Philistines, the Sabeans, and the Lybians were all people of color. They varied in shade and hue, but were darker than their Semiic neighbors and the people of the northern lands. Mark these names well, for we shall meet these people many times. Of the four sons of Ham. it appears that at least three were of a darker hue. The chances are good, therefore, than Ham hiself was a man of color. Possibly Shem was of a lighter pigmentation, but not so fair as Japheth. It is possible, by the way, that Noah had inherited some deep color characteristic, which suggest, of course, that there were men and women of dark complexion before the Flood. There is no way we can be certain of that matter, however. As mentioned earlier, various tribes and families, separated after the Flood in distant corners of the globe, by intermarrying within their own respective tribes would tend to emphasize those physical traits that set them off as different from other tribes. One group would have light skin, another dark; one group would have smooth faces, another beards. One group would have no upper eyelashers, another would have light-colored hair, another would have prominent lips, another would be tall and statuesque, et cetera. Yet everyone counts their ancestors back to three brothers, and before that to one man, Noah, the survivors of the Flood.
