Okay, listen up family, friends, and all who can see this message. There has been photos of people burning the American Flag as a sign of protest stating that it is covered by the First Amendment. As a veteran, it pains not just myself many of my brothers and sisters in arms deeply to see the flag that many of those we have laughed, loved, fought with, and laughed with get buried with it draped over their coffin be desecrated in such an arrogant and ignorant manner. There is NOTHING in the First Amendment that gives you the right or privilege to burn the symbol of the greatest nation on the face of this planet. In case you all need a refresher on what the First Amendment states, read it as follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. In case you need a valid and sound reference for this, then follow the link below: law.cornell.edu/constitution/first_amendment Now, burning the flag is covered under its own laws, rules, and regulations which are covered by the Flag Code. As stated by under this regulation, no where in it does it constitute or give you the right or privelege to burn the flag. In case you need proof, then here it is: Source:us-flag.net/code/ When a flag is so tattered that it can no longer serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning. The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA and other organizations regularly conduct dignified flag-burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14. The flag should never be displayed with the union (the starred blue canton) down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. NO WHERE in these statements or in the Flag Code does it give any person the right to burn the flag as a sign of protest. Upon doing so, you are committing an act that has been done by many terrorist organizations around the world. When you start to act like them by burning the symbol of our country, then you are saying that you go against EVERYTHING this country was built upon, stood for, and what our service men and women have lived and died for. I took an oath when I rose my right hand and swore to defend this country against all enemies, both foreign AND domestic, and by burning my flag as a sign of protest then are you committing yourself as an enemy of the state and country. So PLEASE, educate yourselves upon the proper rules, laws, and regulations upon properly demonstrating, protesting, and the proper display and respect that the symbol of this country that it deserves.
