Okay neighbors, got a message from a friend that lives in Bartlett. He found a non-attached tick on himself Sunday, and an attached tick on his dog. After promising me that the tick he found on himself had not attached, I could tell him what to do for the dog (easy, peasy: treat your dog and your yard for ticks and call the Vet in the morning. Testing for dogs is much more reliable than the testing for humans). Anyway, my point is that they > the blood and life sucking ticks > are here in your own backyard. My friend did not know that there are several different ticks found in our area. He asked about Lyme Disease but was not aware that ticks also transmit: Mycoplasma, Chlamydia Pneumoniae (not to be confused with the STD Chlamydia trachomatis), Bartonella (aka Cat Scratch Fever), Babesia (malarial like disease), Ehrlichiosis ( a protozoan disease), RMSF > Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Tularemia (Rabbit Fever), a new virus first diagnosed in Missouri and I cant remember the name right now. Lyme (and by Lyme I mean Borrelia plus all of the above diseases, and the ones I didnt list) is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US. It is the new Great Imitator. Please protect yourself and your pets.
