Okay; now I feel the walls closing in. Was in a graduate English literature class today, and discussion centered on a story by Derleth about a couple of boys who might or might not have conjured a monster from their primal fears. One student said it put him in mind of Stephen Kings It. That seemed legit. I piped up that for me it resonated off Forbidden Planet. Nobody in the class of around 20 20- to 30- somethings—not one—had ever even heard of it, let alone seen it. Is it me, or is something seriously amiss with cultural generation markers here?
