Okay, people, I just need a chance to vent. You dont need to read it; just let me share it and Ill move on. Most of you know that over the last five years Ive lost 50+ pounds and become more healthy and physically strong than Ive ever been before. I have gotten the gumption to do things Ive never done before, with great trainers to point me in the right direction and make sure I do these unfamiliar activities more accurately and effectively. Ive stayed off motorized machines, because it would be a bad idea to have a seizure and have the machine keep going. Ive used weights with a trainer but not without. The cardio activities I do separately have been great. Most gratifying has been running. Ive gotten the courage to run a few feet, a few feet further, and eventually laps. I have become recognizable as the girl who keeps running around the cardio machines instead of on them. And Ive really enjoyed it. Plus it burns more calories than any of the other activities Ive done. Coach Smith would never have believed 25 years ago that I would voluntarily run laps -- and pay money for the membership to boot! :) )So heres the thing. In those five years Ive had a few seizures while running, and tripped over some of the machines. No big deal. No real damage. As long as no one calls an ambulance, everything is fine, right? Well, yesterday I sprained my right thumb. No bad injury, but certainly noticeable in everyday life. Okay, point taken, but ugghh! My seizures havent deprived me of much. I never drove, so it wasnt really taken away, although I hate being a bother to people. But I need to figure out what to do. The basketball court is usually clear, and I wouldnt trip over anything, but its not very visible from the rest of the gym. Weather permitting, I could hike my standard route of about 2 miles in the neighborhood, hill included, or run down in the park where theres not as much altitude to deal with. And I do enjoy the Just Dance kids Wii I use. I know my trainer will have some suggestions of what to do instead. And theres always the stationary bike. Its not a really big deal. Just frustrating.
