Okay, so I just went to the Dentist today, it took a lot of courage, but I did it. It wasnt too bad, the Dentist examined my teeth, did small talk about his dog and children, and told me about the glory days of his college years. Then, the X-Rays were taken and BAM!!!!.....He walks in with this look on his face like he had just saw his family massacred before his eyes! Thats when I got scared! He slowly walked over to me, put asked me to sit up, put his hand on my shoulder, while shaking his head side to side and he said, Mr Allah, there is nothing I can do. You have 80% bone lose in your mouth and the only thing holding your teeth in place is your gums. We have a Periodontist next door, and he is the person you need to see immediately. I said, Doc, is it that bad? Does I-80 go to Jersey? Yes, it is that bad he replied. Then the Dentist assistant came in with a wheel chair to bring me next door. I felt like a Cancer patient who had been relegated to a hospice as part of my last will and testament! I heard Fred Sanford saying, You hear that Elizabeth, Im coming to join you honey, with bone deterioration of the mouth! With that thought, I was whisked into the Periodontist office and promptly moved into a examination room. There I sat, waiting for the Grim Reaper and Judgement day, praying that the god of black people, White Jesus, would spare me and ham merci pon mi soul. It was all to no avail, as I would soon find out when satan entered the room. The Periodontist came in looking at my X-Rays from the Dentist. He kept shaking his head while saying, Oh boy, oh boy, not good. The good doctor looked to be around 60 years of age, and had a flair of arrogance that comes with being an expert in his chosen field. Once he was finished looking over the X-Rays, he turned to me and said, The bone in your mouth is almost gone, we will have to scale all quads of your mouth, pull a few teeth, graft gum membrane and synthetic bone back in your mouth, and look at placing implant teeth or partial plates in the top and bottom of your mouth, all depending on the best scenario for you. The rest of the conversation was a blur as I began to calculate the estimated cost of all he was saying, in my head. Maybe about two thousand dollars, Maybe cheaper, I said to myself. The daydreaming and accounting came to an abrupt halt when I heard him say, The good news is that we can fix you right up and get your mouth back to 100% functionality, the bad news is that it is going to take some time and will probably set you back about $10,000, depending on what all you want done and the direction you want to take in terms of surgery, plates, implants, and so on and so forth. I died in that examination chair, I mean, $10,000! I want my mouth fixed, not put a down payment on a damn Lexus! He said all of that without flinching, and he even had a smirk on his face, because Im sure in his mind, he felt he had me bent over the barrel, which by the way he did. After the talk about cost, and financing, because my insurance will only pay $1250 a year for major dental work, he pulled the chair back, and went to examine my mouth one last time. When he was done, he prescribed some antibiotics for me, and set an appointment 30 days from today, for me to began my oral comeback, one quad at a time. As I signed off on the paperwork, and walked out of his office, I felt like I had been ganged raped by Boko Haram or the Muslim Brotherhood! Of course I will look at other Periodontist and go for a second or third opinion to try and drive down the cost, however, there is a lesson to be learned in all of this. Do not wait until you are knocking on heavens door to fix a health problem. The sooner you take care of it, the cheaper and less painful it will be. Now as for me, I will have to endure the trails of Job as I began my treatments in the next month. I can almost fill the pain now, and hear those damn Dentist drills in ears while I dream at night. Taking care of everybody else while sacrificing your yourself, is evil, and the very ones you do all that sacrificing for will not give a damn if you dropped dead because you worked yourself to death at the expense of your health, just trying to look out for them. Dont do it men, dont do it! It will cost you pain and money. Shadid M-Allah
