Okay so I thought it might be helpful to have a lunch suggestions thread because I know that lunch can be a hugely stressful thing for many families (including mine!!) so give us your tips and tricks and suggestions (and yes we know that not every suggestion will work for every child so pick and choose at will!) Here are some of my suggestions.... 1. Have your child help pack their lunch (the night before!!)....the rule in our house is you get one fruit, one veggie, one dairy, one treat and a sandwich or sandwich alternative. But within those rules, the kids have a fair bit of choice....fruit (Apple, applesauce, clementine, seasonal fruit), veggies (carrots, cucumbers, peppers, snap peas or some combo....or other veggies your kids like!), treat (I rotate the types of treats I buy to avoid fatigue lol....I do that with fruits and veggies too), dairy is usually a cheese string or a frozen tube yogurt...or occasionally a parfait made with greek yogurt). My kids dont like sandwiches on bread so we rotate through bagels, ciabatta buns, flat hamburger buns and sometimes wraps. Isla doesnt like sandwiches at all so she will often get a cheese stick or a pizza bun (1/2 of one)....she is my pickiest so I make sure she has lots of fruit and veggies because she often doesnt eat her bread. They used to get juice boxes but they kept sneaking them at night so now they get water in a reusable bottle . 2. If I have a child complaining I am not packing enough I usually pack them my homemade trail mix in a small container...pumpkin seeds (pepitas), sunflower seeds, raisins and/or dried cranberries and mini chocolate chips (not a lot just enough so they see them lol!) Try to rotate through items so your kids dont get sick of them. I try to keep treats to 150 calories or less. My kids arent on a diet but filling them up with sugary crap isnt a good idea in my mind. If they need extra food it will be veggies and fruit. .....okay probably not great ideas lol but lets hear some of yours!
